REMOVING VOCALS

Q.

Is there any application that lets you remove the vocals from an mp3 file so that there is sound only from the musical instruments? Also, can the vocals be saved to a separate file?

A.

While it isn't possible to completely remove or isolate any part of a recording after it's been mixed, there are a number of applications available on the Web that attempt to do just that. However, the accompanying side effects and degradation in audio quality reduce this approach to nothing more than a gimmick, and a commercially-available karaoke version of the track or mix will have much better quality than the result from any such application.
